Why I love painting your favourite places

Some moments just belong outside of a phone camera roll. They deserve to be framed and glowing in a special corner of your home. Commissioning an artwork is such a fun way to bottle a feeling, capture a fleeting moment, or honour a place that means the world to you. It might be that lookout you always stop to admire on your morning walk, or the spot where you finally said "I do."
For me, that's how every one of my landscape paintings begins. It's usually a sunset that stop me in my tracks or a headland view that made me feel so lucky to live here. I paint those scenes because I want to hold onto that sense of being completely present. It's not about making a perfect, rigid copy of a photo. It's about capturing a feeling so you can cherish it in your home forever.
The best part of my work lately has been helping other people do exactly that. I recently had a request to paint the spot on a local headland where a couple got engaged at sunset. It was such a beautiful reminder that while I have my own favourite places, you have yours too.

Honouring your story
I've found that most commissions usually fall into one of these three buckets:
The places that move you: Think favourite lookouts, holiday sunsets, or the beach where life feels simple. These are all about the light and the feeling of being right there.
The moments that change you: Weddings, elopements, or big celebrations. Whether we include people or just focus on the setting where it all happened, these pieces are about that raw energy.
The spaces that hold you: Your childhood home, the family farm, or your wedding venue. These bricks and beams held your story, and a painting is a lovely way to honour where life happened.

How it works
If you are thinking about a custom piece, the process is actually really easy. To help me get a feel for what you are after, here are a few things we can chat about:
What are we painting? Tell me the "what"—is it a home, a swim spot, or a wedding?
The story: I would love to hear why this place is significant to you. Knowing the "why" helps me get the energy just right.
Size: Where will it live? A statement piece for the lounge or a little something for the hallway? I generally work in A4 or A3.
Photos: Clear, well lit photos are great, but don't worry if you don't have the "perfect" one. We can piece things together from different shots, or if you are local to Coffs, I can head out and take some new ones myself.
The little things: Any must haves? A certain tree, a beloved dog, or a memorial element to keep the heart of the memory intact.
Timeline: Is this for a birthday or an anniversary? Just let me know the date so we can get it ready in time.
My style: I work in a loose and fluid way to capture the essence of a moment. While I don't copy other artists, we can definitely talk about the colours or feelings you love to make sure it is uniquely yours.
From memory to heirloom
There is a quiet power in turning a fleeting second into something lasting. I love the idea of these pieces hanging in your home and transporting you back to that exact feeling every time you walk past. It is about creating something that makes you stop, even for a second, to admire the times gone by and the places that shaped you.
